coreserverにSubversion入れようとしたのだが…

ドメインが複数置けたり容量が大きかったりいろいろ何でもさわれたりするのに安い、ということでcoreserverのアカウントを持っている。今のところ主にドメイン置き場としてしか使ってないけど。

話は変わってSubversion。職場では何年も前から使っていて、もうこれがないと制作・開発出来ないというか、ないと怖いのでてしたくない、という感じで、当然家でもないとヤダヤダって事でローカルにリポジトリを作って作ってた。

しかし、やっぱりリポジトリがローカルにしかないのって不便。インターネット経由でアクセス出来るところにあればどこからでも使えるし、というかそうしたい!

そういうわけでで自分の使ってるcoreserverにSubversion入れられないのかな、と思ってググった、なんと既に入っているという情報が!よく調べると、入っているには入っているけどバージョンが結構古いらしい。なのでこれをアップグレードしましょう(正確にはユーザーの領域に最新版を別途インストールしましょう)ということで下記のページを参考にやりました。参考に、というかUNIXとか全然分からないのでほぼ書いてあるとおりそのまま。

ただしこのページに書いてある各ソフトウェアのバージョン等は最新版ではないので、以下のページで最新のバージョンを確認してバージョン表記の部分を書き換える。

で、インストールまで問題なく行ったんだけど、svn --versionとやっても元からサーバーに入っていた方の古いバージョン(1.2.3)しか帰ってこない。どうも呼んでる場所が違うよなー、とまでは分かるんだけど、どうしたらいいのか分からない。

ということでむらまささんにヘルプをお願いして助けてもらった。

やっぱりパスが通ってないので通すべし、とのこと。「よくわかんないからやって♥」とお願いしたらやってくれた。だいたい以下のような感じ。

export PATH=/virtual/ユーザー名/local/bin:$PATH

という内容のテキストファイルを.bash_profileという名前で作り、

# source .bash_profile

とすればOKのようだ。おもむろにsvn --versionしてみると以下のように見事に1.4.6が返ってきました。

が、しかしここにリポジトリを作ってTortoise SVNからアクセスしようとすると例の忌々しい音とともに

svn: Expected format '3' of repository; found format '5'

というエラーが出て止まってしまう。困ってしまったのでまた調べると

どうも、subversion 1.3 と 1.4 でリポジトリのメターデータ（？）のフォーマット形式が違っているためのエラーのようです。
不思議なところ、subversion サーバのローカルから file でアクセスすると上のようなエラーがでません。

調べてみたところ、svn+ssh は ssh でログインした後 svnserve という subversion のデーモンプログラムを動かしているようです。

subversion 1.3 と 1.4 が同居しているサーバには、パスに 1.3 の svnserve が設定されていることが原因でした。そこで、ssh でログインしたときにパスの設定を 1.4 の subversion を優先的に見るようにしたところ、あっさり解決しました。

という記述を発見。どうやら外からアクセスしたときは元からサーバーにインストールされてる方のsvnserveを見に行ってしまう様子。パスの問題はさっき解決したと思ったんだけど、外からアクセスしたときはまた話が違うらしい。手がつきて困ってしまった。

と、ここで「バージョンが古いと何か困るの?」と訊かれる。

実はサーバーのバージョンは最新じゃなくても別に問題ないらしい。Tortoise SVNのバージョンと合ってないとまずいのかと思ってたが、よく思い出したら問題があるのはサーバーが新しくてクライアントが古い、という逆のケースの話だった。特別高度な機能も使わないし、よく考えると全く問題ない。

というわけでせっかくインストールしたけれどきれいさっぱり消去。元々サーバーに入ってたSubversionでリポジトリ作ったらTortoise SVNから問題なくアクセスできましたとさ。

ちなみにこのエントリーは日常の中の特筆すべき事柄として取り上げたわけではなく、単にテクニカルに困ったこととその解決(解決してない気もするけど)をシェアするために書いております。なんかテッキーなblogって感じだね!

    こちらのほうで新バージョンのSubversion(1.4.6)で
    使えたので報告します。

    .bash_profile
    のファイル名を
    .bashrc
    にして
    source .bashrc

    とするだけです。
    理由は分かりませんが、どうやらsvn+sshのアクセス時には.bash_profileが読み込まれていない様ですね。
